On 8-10 June 2011, a High Level Meeting (HLM) will be convened in New York by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/60/262) to undertake a comprehensive review of the progress achieved in realizing the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the 2006 Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS.
In its resolution 65/180, adopted on 10 December 2010, the General Assembly sets out the organizational arrangements for this meeting, one person from civil society who is openly living with HIV will be invited to speak at the opening plenary session of the High-Level Meeting. The other opening plenary speakers will be the President of the UN General Assembly, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, and an eminent person (to be selected). Application to High Level Meeting and/or Civil Society Hearing
The online application form has now been launched for both the June High Level Meeting (HLM) and the one day interactive hearing with civil society in April. The deadline for applications to participate for ECOSOC and non-ECOSOC organizations is 18 February 2011. No applications will be considered after the deadline has passed.
Applicants seeking to attend the HLM and/or the Civil Society Hearing must apply through the DESA website and complete the “2011 United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS” online application form.
