The United Nations Programme on Youth recently announced that it has undertaken various initiatives to further promote the International Year of Youth. As such, and in order to start a continuous dialogue with youth from around the world, it has launched a new website, accessible at http://social.un.org/youthyear/, as well as a Facebook page, entitled “United Nations International Year of Youth.”
In addition, it has launched a second youth consultation (through its Facebook page) that aims to collect youth suggestions for low cost activities that can be organized to celebrate the International Year. The most creative suggestions will be advertised on Twitter and in the UN Programme on Youth’s newsletter Youth Flash. Deadline for submission is 15 March 2010.
An earlier youth consultation took place from 25 January – 12 February and focussed on proposals for a slogan for the International Year of Youth. The UN Programme on Youth was looking for a powerful 1 to 5 word slogan that encapsulates the Year and its theme, Dialogue and Mutual Understanding. Some of the proposed slogans are now visible on the UN Programme of Youth website.
