On the evening of 27 September 2015, the Solutions Summit at UN Headquarters turned attention toward breakthrough solutions for achieving the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), immediately following the conclusion of the UN Sustainable Development Summit. The event began with 14 ‘lightning talks’ profiling innovative projects selected through an open, global application process conducted by UN-NGLS. The project leaders then discussed how to scale these projects for greater impact with senior policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and leaders from the UN, philanthropy and civil society. After these discussions, participants gathered to celebrate the adoption of the SDGs and commit to action for their implementation. The Solutions Summit initiative will continue as a long-term effort to lift up and convene resources around exceptional innovators who are already delivering solutions that address one or more of the 17 SDGs.
Watch the video of the 14 lightning talks here. Read reflections about the Solutions Summit by Megan Smith, United States Chief Technology Officer here. That article was published by the White House and summarizes each of the projects profiled. More information about the Solutions Summit, including the list of projects selected for the event, is available at www.solutions-summit.org.
The Solutions Summit is led by the UN Foundation and UN-NGLS, in collaboration with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Kenyan Ministry of Information Communications and Technology, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Fiji, and Project Everyone.
