The United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) is an inter-agency programme of the United Nations mandated to promote and develop constructive relations between the United Nations and civil society organizations.
The thirteenth session of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held at UNHQ from 14-19 July. The session was originally scheduled to end on 18 July, but continued throughout the night and into mid-afternoon of the next day. On 19 July, the OWG Outcome Document was finally concluded, after 17 months of preparatory negotiations on the SDGs, which included eight stock-taking sessions and five decision-making sessions, as well as informal sessions. It presents 17 proposed goals with 169 proposed targets.
From 10-11 July 2014, the UN General Assembly convened a High-Level Meeting on the theme “A Comprehensive Review and Assessment of the Progress Achieved in the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)” at UNHQ in New York, which also sought to make recommendations to guide the NCD response in the context of the post-2015 development agenda.
