UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development

The UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development opened this morning with addresses by the President of the General Assembly, Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, and the Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon.

Representatives from nearly 150 Member States addressed the three-day Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Development. At the conclusion of the Conference, they adopted an outcome document which touches on multiple dimensions of the crisis, including its root causes, impacts and reform of the international financial system and architecture.

The Conference also featured several Round Table discussions on topics including the role of the UN in responding to the crisis and how to mitigate the impact of the downturn on development.

Over 200 representatives of civil society organizations attended and participated in the Conference as well.
