International Migration and Development

On 6 June 2006, UN Secretary-General presented his report on International Migration and Development to the General Assembly (Languages: A C E F R S), which provided the framework for discussion during the Informal Interactive Civil Society Hearings which took place on 12 July 2006 and the High-level Dialogue of the General Assembly, being held from 14-15 September 2006.

The High-Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development took place on 14 and 15 September 2006 in New York at UN Headquarters. In its resolution 58/208 of 23 December 2003, the General Assembly decided to devote a High-Level Dialogue to international migration and development during its sixty-first session in 2006. The purpose of the High-Level dialogue was to discuss the multidimensional aspects of international migration and development in order to identify appropriate ways and means to maximize its development benefits and minimize its negative impacts. Additionally, the high-level dialogue had a strong focus on policy issues, including the challenge of achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
